PP Seafrog is a dive operation on the island Koh Phi Phi, Thailand. Koh Phi Phi is a tropical paradise where the tourism is booming and the diving is awesome. Our Divemaster internship offer allows you to become a Divemaster without making major investments. (worth about 2000 US$)

It takes 4-6 weeks to complete your SSI Divemaster course. After the course you will work for our dive center, gaining valuable experience for your future career in diving. This includes Rescue Specialty and React Right (first aid) if needed.

The SSI Dive master course includes theory and practical sessions but for the most part you will be diving and assisting our instructors with their courses.

  • Prerequisite experience level is Open Water and Advanced level.
  • The course is free but you will be required to work as a dive guide for three months (total time 3 month). In the three month work period your job will be to guide customers on the local dive sites. Normally you will make two dives in the morning and spend some time in the shop assisting customers and preparing the dives for the next day. There is no donkey work involved like washing equipment or handling tanks.
  • All mandatory study materials including SSI Dive Guide and Science of Diving Registration one year Membership are not included.
  • Food and accommodation is not included. (lunches on the boat are include)
  • Since you will be trained to become a professional diver, each candidate is encouraged to own a set of equipment (regulator, bcd, fins, wetsuit, mask, computer). If you don’t have your own equipment yet we can offer equipment from several brands including Mares, Scubapro, Aqualung and Suunto for trade price.
  • You will gain enormous experience of the industry in a wonderful tropical environment underwater as well as on the surface with at least 150 dives by the finish of the program. We cannot guarantee a paying job with us after the program however local training makes interns highly employable.
  • If you decide to do the SSI instructor course, we will arrange you a course at a discounted price in Phuket or on Phi Phi. Or Internship options are available.

Other requirements;

  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Basic English speaking ability is necessary.
  • Diving experience is an advantage but not required.
  • Ability to work in a team, enthusiasm, motivation.
  • We recommend diver insurance with e.g. Divers Alert Network (basic).
  • Doctors’ declaration that you are fit to dive. (also possible to arrange here in Thailand).

Certification Level
As an active SSI Divemaster you can:

  • Guide certified divers on recreational scuba dives
  • Teach, supervise and issue recognition cards for the SSI Snorkeling program
  • Act as a certified assistant for all SSI recreational courses
  • Assist during open water training dives by taking no more than two (2) students at a time on excursion dives
  • Qualify as a Training Specialist for the SSI Ecology Specialty programs
  • SSI Coral Identification Specialty
  • SSI Fish Identification Specialty
  • SSI Marine Ecology / Naturalist Specialty
  • SSI Sea Turtle Ecology Specialty
  • SSI Shark Ecology Specialty
Prerequisites
  • Minimum age: 15 years old (Must be 18 years old to work as an active status Professional Dive Guide)

  • RSTC Medical Statement signed by a physician within one (1) year

Schedule

Water Fitness Evaluation:

  • Tread water for 15 minutes
  • Swim 700 meters, mask, snorkel and fins
  • Swim 300 meters without stopping
  • Swim underwater for 25 meters using a mask, fIns and snorkel
  • Perform a full, unconscious-diver-on-the-surface rescue with a total distance of 100 meters within eight (8) minutes

Snorkeling Skills Workshop:

  • Demonstrate all of the skills of the SSI Snorkeling program with professional-level quality

Open Water Diver Workshop:

  • Perform all of the skills listed of the SSI Open Water Diver program at an expert diver level

Diver Stress & Rescue Skills Workshop:

  • Assisting a Struggling or Panicked Diver (Surface and Underwater)
  • Bringing an Unconscious Diver to the Surface
  • Unconscious Diver on the Surface
  • Transporting an Unconscious Diver
  • Removing an Unconscious Diver from the water
  • Missing Diver Search

Dive Briefing Evaluation:

  • Plan and organise a dive briefing based on a given dive scenario
  • Conduct a dive briefing using the SSI Dive Briefing slate

Dive Guiding Evaluation:

  • Supervise and maintain control of a group of diver before, during, and after a dive
  • Recognise and provide the appropriate corrective actions for all problems that occur during a dive

Deep and Night Diving Workshop:

  • Evaluate a deep and night diving scenario and provide recommendations for dive planning, specialty equipment, and dive parameters
  • Create a safe and appropriate dive plan, based on the given scenario

Dive Equipment
As a Dive Professional ideally you should have your own Total Diving System. We can help out with missing items, at a minimum you should have your own:

Each candidate is entitled to buy 1 set of equipment (regulator, bcd, fins, wetsuit, mask, computer). FOR TRADE PRICE!

If you don’t have your own equipment yet we can offer equipment from several brands including Mares, Scubapro, Aqualung and Suunto for trade price.

If you do not have the funds to buy your personal gear you can use our rental equipment for the duration of the internship.
